Fayette County Courthouse
Construction began on the present,
and fourth Fayette County courthouse, located in LaGrange, in 1890. The masonry and stone three-story Romanesque Revival style building features a carved American eagle
in the 100 foot tall clock tower.
The tower wasn’t powered with electricity until 1951.

By touring the historic Texas county courthouses, one can sense the colorful history of this State that was once an independent republic. The architecture ranges from simple brick to ornate Roman to art-deco, each reflecting the passions of the counties previous leadership.

A Renaissance Revival Building in Sandstone

The third courthouse built in Bell County; it was built on the same site as the first and second log courthouses that were constructed in 1851 and 1858, respectively. This ornate building is designed in the Renaissance Revival style and was built before the State Capitol. The current structure has been renovated and altered several times since its initial construction in 1884. Somewhere in its history, the prominent bell tower went missing and was replaced in 1994.
